Phiran is the traditional dress used by both males and females in KASHMIR. The Phiran is usually used in winters to keep the body warm. Design of the Phiran for females is different fvrom males. Males Phirans  are simple in colour while Phirans used by females are bright coloured and beautifully designed with Embroidery and Tilla Work.




The phiran a loose upper garment loosely gathered at the sleeves which tend to be wide, made of either wool or jamewar which is a mixture of wool and cotton, with no side slits. A phiran made of wool is called a 'loch'. ... Intricate embroideries or flower styles are a popular function of a Kashmiri ladies phiran.

Most of the garments are made of wool, silk designed with intricate embroideries and cotton. The traditionally Poots & Pheran is the most popular form of dress among both men and women With Mughal type Turbans, headgear, Taranga Belt of Pashmina and colored scarf. The Pheran is the prominent attire for Kashmiri women.
